This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Brian Holod. Brian was born in Kennedy Township, McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, to David and Joyce Holod, on October 27, 1971, and he suddenly passed away at his home in North Ridgeville, Ohio on January 1, 2006 at the age of 34.
Brian was loved by all who knew him. He had a beautiful smile, warm and caring ways, a great personality and keen sense of humor. We were gifted by God to have Brian be such a special part of our lives. We will remember Brian, our "shining star", forever as a very special son, brother, friend, co-worker and physician.
Brian made a difference in so many lives, and this quote by Pericles seems appropriate: "WHAT YOU LEAVE BEHIND IS NOT WHAT IS ENGRAVED IN STONE MONUMENTS, BUT WHAT IS WOVEN INTO THE LIVES OF OTHERS."
Thank you for visiting Brian's website. Scroll down to learn more about events scheduled to remember Brian and to view a slide show of photos. WE HOPE YOU WILL TAKE A MOMENT TO "LIGHT A CANDLE" FOR BRIAN. This will let us know you have visited the site. After you light a candle, it will remain lit forever. It means so much to us, and we thank everyone who continues to show your support!
WE WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE YOU ADDING A "TRIBUTE" TO BRIAN, SHARING YOUR FUNNY STORIES AND/OR TREASURED MOMENTS. WE WILL CHERISH YOUR COMMENTS AND MEMORIES MORE THAN WORDS CAN EXPRESS. Our thanks to those who participated in the BRIAN HOLOD MEMORIAL POKER RUN on October 7, 2006. After much prayer, decided it would be best not to do another poker run, and just appreciate the special gathering we had last year to dedicate Brian's Garden at SJWS.

SJWS INTERN & RESIDENT GRADUATION DINNER ON 6/14/07
The St. John West Shore Hospital Graduate Medical Education Department was kind enough to invite us to the 2006-2007 Intern and Resident Graduation Dinner held at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake on Thursday, June 14. It was an honor and privilege to enjoy a delicious meal at a table with SJWS Sisters and to be present for the presentations of the evening. Our congratulations to all the students and physicians who were recognized for their dedication and hard work...and best of luck to those moving on to new endeavors!
My daughter, Sandee, had indicated to me her desire to do something in Brian's name..possibly a scholarship or an award. It was suggested (and approved by GME) that an award be presented annually to a D.O. who displays exceptional compassion in the care of patients at St. John West Shore Hospital. So many members of SJWS staff and Brian's teaching physicians have told us that Brian was so very compassionate with his patients. Brian had a smile for everyone, and he was kind, caring and demonstrated "patience with his patients". This is how the BRIAN HOLOD, D.O. "PATIENCE WITH PATIENTS" AWARD was created.
We had the honor of presenting the first "Patience with Patients" award to ANTHONY J. ROZZO, D.O. Anthony and Brian were classmates at Ohio University and enjoyed a special friendship with each other. It was our privilege to present Anthony with a recognition gift of $300.00 from THE BRIAN HOLOD, D.O. MEMORIAL FUND.
The inscription on the beautiful blue lucite Midnight Star award reads:
Patience with Patients
Awarded to ANTHONY ROZZO, D.O.
In recognition of your caring attitude, commitment and "patience with patients". Your compassion and dedication make you a shining example of the principles of your profession.
BRIAN HOLOD, D.O. 'PATIENCE WITH PATIENTS"AWARD
JUNE 14, 2007 - SJWS
Congratulations, Anthony, on being the first recipient of The Brian Holod, D.O. "Patience with Patients" Award. Thank you to SJWS's GME Department for assistance in orchestrating this award. Thanks to everyone who has displayed continued care and concern to our family. Your kindness is greatly appreciated.
IT'S A BOY! WELCOME TO: JULIAN BRIAN TUROS, DOB 06/06/07
Congratulations to Joe and Julie on the birth of their first child! JULIAN BRIAN TUROS made his debut on June 6, 2007, weighing in at 7 pounds, 1 ounce and 20 inches.
I was so touched when Joe called me earlier that day and told me Julie was in the hospital. Joe informed me they decided at the time they found out their baby was a boy that "Brian" would be included in their child's name as a tribute to their special friend. We both got a little emotional during the phone conversation. The Holod family is extremely thankful to Joe and Julie for bestowing Brian's name to their son. What a special tribute to recognize Joe and Brian's special friendship! I'm sure Brian is smiling down on the Turos family, and little Julian now has a special guardian angel to watch over him.
We welcome Julian and know that he will provide a world of love and happiness to Joe and Julie. Best wishes always.
Love, Mrs. H
3/30/07 DOCTORS' DAY & BLESSING OF CONFERENCE ROOM AT SJWS
The Annual Doctors' Day Mass held at St. John West Shore Hospital this morning was so beautiful. It honored both living and deceased members of the medical profession, and we were privileged to be a part of it.
At the conclusion of the mass, guests were invited to the Graduate Medical Education Department where Fr. Elmer gave a blessing upon the Conference Room which now bears your name: "BRIAN HOLOD, D.O. CONFERENCE ROOM". The plaque which was presented to our family in October at the dedication of your Garden now has a home. What a special tribute to you! Your presence at St. John West Shore Hospital continues to be felt!
Our love & prayers to you, "Our son, the doctor" We know you are doing your work in other ways now but your love and spirit continue here!
CONTRIBUTION TO SJWSH/DIALYSIS FROM BRIAN HOLOD MEMORIAL FUND
A CONTRIBUTION OF $500.00 WAS MADE IN FEBRUARY, 2007 FROM THE BRIAN HOLOD, D.O. MEMORIAL FUND TO ST. JOHN WEST SHORE HOSPITAL FOR THE PURCHASE OF DIALYSIS EQUIPMENT. The hospital designated in 2006 that fund development would benefit dialysis. Since Brian started his medical career as a Dialysis Technician at St. John West Shore Hospital, our family felt it would be a tribute to him to donate funds from his memorial account for the purpose of updating dialysis equipment and ultimately assisting those patients. St. John West Shore Hospital will always hold a special place in our hearts, and hopefully Brian will be remembered for his medical skills and his compassionate care of patients.
Special thanks to the following individuals for their generous contributions to Brian’s Memorial Fund for the SJWS Dialysis Equipment: BARRY W. SCHLENTNER (Brian’s Godfather), Eloy, AZ for $100; GENE & BEVERLY PEINDEL (Family friends from Pa. who recently learned of Brian’s passing), Greensburg, PA for $100; BETTY LESH (Brian’s Grandmother), N. Ridgeville, OH for $50.
I can't begin to express how poignant this gift is to us. Brian lives on here at the Dialysis unit. He is in our memories and in our hearts. We miss him here as does everyone he touched.
We appreiate your thoughtfulness in remembering us with this donation. It is a gift that will keep on giving in providing life-sustaining dialysis treatments to others. Please accept our most sincere thanks. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
